I drew these after Helina's dance class, scanned the drawings and added some digital in-betweens.

Myself as Batman drawn with the non-dominant hand, and there was a time restriction that I forgot by now. Another Lynda Barry excercise.

animated thing from february

In February I made this 34-frames long animation on a "Disciplina" notebook bought from Portugal. 

I improvised the animation as I went and animated straight ahead, but the thin paper allowed me to see the previous drawing very well and made it easy to follow the movement.

I started this in the beginning of the month and ran out of ideas around page 15 (when the guy starts turning). In the end of the month I got the idea that one character could divide into two, and finished the book. 

This pace of ideas is one reason of why I finish one film in a decade. But I'm not ashamed of it!

Another tetrapack printing Sunday. I was told lately that bird is good for anything. There's not much possibility to get confused with the movement of the hair but it happened anyway. Oh, well!

A couple of weeks ago we got a visitor from the pulsing art scene of Berlin and she asked: "When will we make a printing day in the studio?" Alas, our wooden printing press has hibernated under Liisi's table for more than a year, but for this request is needed to be dug out.

Here's my tetrapack prints on different papers, and the actual plate (third image). A heart was a reoccurring motif that day.

 Real life imitates art, because just two weeks later I bought way too big shoes to myself!

I was attending a class related to the use of AI in thesis writing in the uni where I teach. Asking about the energy usage of AI, in relation to the benefit it gives, I got this answer:

existential warning

 It's not like I didn't draw anything during February. I for example, hand crafted these post-its to our studio toilet. It's a specific, melancholic feeling, when you've "done your thing" in the toilet, reach out to the toilet paper and there is none. A small, sudden existential moment in the middle of the day you thought was going to pass like any other. How do I continue from here?

I started something I couldn't finish

 It's a song by the Smiths, and it's also what happened with my Hourly Comics Day attempt this year.

 

That's it folks! No hours, no ending. It looks like a promising start for a day but I remember rest of it being quite a blunt Sunday with quite a lot of scrolling. 

 

After an effective and work-filled January, I've felt tired and grumpy through most of the February. Except for the teaching days when I know where I have to be and what to do. This Spring I'm for the first time not only an advisor, but a Supervisor. It feels fancy and I try to live up to the responsibilities. 

 

As for what comes to doing my "own stuff", the started hourly comic was kind of the high peak of the month.

Let's see what's up in March, the month of many missed festivals and the month I should officially start my script writing (woop woop! Scientists have proven that even a person with a script writing grant can feel themselves periodically grumpy.)

 

Now I'm off to Helina's dance class. Take care, you cute fools who keep returning to this distant corner of world wide web!
